Nomex^® is a synthetic meta-aramid fiber that is known for its high heat resistance and strength. Laser cutting Nomex^® fabric is done with a 9.3 or 10.6 micron CO₂ laser. The laser beam rapidly heats and vaporizes material that is directly in the beam path to create a clean and precise cut. This is a distinct advantage over using mechanical tools with traditional cutting edges, which can become dull quickly when cutting Nomex^®.
