STAHLS'® Materials
STAHLS'® Overview
STAHLS'® offers a wide variety of heat press materials under the trade name of CAD-CUT® films. STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® films consist of polyurethane (PU) as the main heat transferable material with a clear plastic carrier layer. STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® materials may also be referred to by these specific product names: Thermo-FILM™, Fashion-FILM™, Fashion-FILM™ Electric, Premium Plus™, SportFilm Lite™, Flock, Glitter Flake™, 3M™ Scotchlite™ 5807, Hologram, Thermo-GRIP®, GORILLA GIRP® II, Perma-TWILL®, and Poly-TWILL™. Laser processing of STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® materials is possible with a 9.3 or 10.6 micron CO2 laser. However, the 9.3 micron CO2 laser produces results that are far superior in detail and sharpness than what can be obtained with a 10.6 micron CO2 laser. Laser processing of STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® materials with a 1.06 micron fiber laser is not recommended as this material does not readily absorb the energy produced at this wavelength. Laser engraving of STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® materials with the 9.3 micron CO2 laser completely removes the PU material from the plastic carrier, leaving a detailed design that can be heat transferred to the desired surface. Laser cutting of STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® materials with the 9.3 micron CO2 laser produces a clean cut edge with little to no discoloration or heat affects. Laser marking of STAHLS'® CAD-CUT® materials with a CO2 laser is possible and will produce a slight mark in the surface of the film but is not recommended as this is not the intended use of the material.
