Aluminosilicate Glass
Aluminosilicate Glass Overview
Aluminosilicate glass, also known as Gorilla®, Dragontrail™, or Xensation® glass, is composed primarily of alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2). It is less prone to scratching and is more impact resistant than the more common soda lime glass. Laser processing of aluminosilicate glass is achieved using either a 10.6 or 9.3 micron CO2 laser. The 1.06 micron fiber wavelength is not absorbed by this material and will pass through unabated. Laser marking of aluminosilicate glass with a CO2 laser produces surface microfractures, resulting in a uniform mark with a frosted appearance. Laser engraving of aluminosilicate glass produces a smooth mark with depth and a melted appearance. Laser cutting of this material is not recommended.
