Metalized PET
Metalized PET Overview
Metalized PET (MPET) film, also known as metalized Mylar®, is produced by coating a polyester film with a thin layer of metal, typically aluminum. Laser processing of metalized PET can be performed with either a 9.3 or 10.6 micron CO2 laser and a 1.06 micron fiber laser. Laser cutting of metalized PET with a CO2 laser provides a clean cut with smooth edges. Laser engraving of polyesters with a CO2 laser results in depth, high contrast, and limited melt back at the point of ablation. Laser marking of metalized PET with a 1.06 micron fiber laser can be performed by selectively ablating the metal layer from the underlying PET film, leaving the PET layer intact.
